Scalding Sands' Al'āb Nārīya Event Story Episode 1-1

ngl, I’m still not entirely sure how exactly I should format this. I felt like dumping each part into separate posts (to make 38 entire posts oof) felt quite excessive and a pain to click through, so I though of splitting them by Episode… and then THAT also sounded like a bad idea so I’m just gonna make 38 entire posts and see how fast my braincells die first.

Some notes to start off:

  • Arabic words will be kept as is, including the names of the clothes and river.
  • Al’āb nārīya is the Arabic word for fireworks. Notably, in the katakana, there’s likely a Disney reference because in Japanese the kana used for Al’āb is usually アルアーブ (Aruaabu), instead of アリアーブ (Ariaabu).
  • Yasmina (i.e. Yasmina River and Yasmina Silk) is Arabic for Jasmine (often used as a name). Thank you to squidcandy and your friend for clarifying and helping inform my decisions!

Also spent the day trying to make the selectable dialogue work, if there’s any issues with it please inform me so I can (try to) break my keyboard until it works

Thank you once again squidcandy for helping read through and fixing some weird English thingies in this script!

Al’āb Nārīya

Jamil's Room (Day)

Scarabia Dorm - Jamil's Room

Jamil
…Phew, and that should be all.
I’ve somehow managed to squeeze both mine and Kalim’s belongings into one bag.
Even then… Our luggage is much larger than expected.
Although it’s been a while since my last visit, I still think I bought too many souvenirs for my family.
Kalim might have other things that he wants to bring with him on this trip, so I’ll go check on him.

Scarabia Dorm Hallway (Day)

Scarabia Dorm - Hallway

Jamil
Kalim is probably in his room… Hmm?

*luggage being lugged*

Jamil
Isn’t that person down the hall Kalim? Wh-What’s with all this luggage!?
Kalim
Jamiiiiil!!! Please heeeelp!!!
I packed all of my stuff for tomorrow but no matter how hard I try, I can’t lock up the bags!
Jamil
…I told you before that I’d be packing your luggage, right?
So how did this happen!?
Who in the world would take eight suitcases with them on a trip to their hometown!? You’re not travelling long term, you know?!
Kalim
Ehh? But I even cut down to just the essentials, y’know. There’s my favourite pillow, my pajamas, and…
Jamil
You already have those back home, so there’s no need to pack them, right!?
Kalim
-my cushion, my drum, my coconuts, and…
Jamil
They’re not necessities! The luggage I packed is all you need!
Kalim
Ehhh!? But, but… What if there’s an emergency?
Jamil
Don’t worry, I was the one who prepared everything, remember? Nothing was left out.
Kalim
I see… Got it! It’ll be alright if I leave it to Jamil!
Jamil
I don’t have a choice since I have to worry about you…

Jamil
If it isn’t Yuu and Grim. What do you need?
Kalim
Yo, Yuu and Grim! What’s up?
Grim
We were asked by the Headmaster to tell you guys that you were given permission to use the Mirror of Darkness.
Kalim
For real? Thanks! This means we can go to faraway places in the blink of an eye.
Grim
Are you guys going somewhere?
Now that you mention it, you’ve got some huge luggage with you.
Kalim
"Al'āb Nārīya"
Grim
What’s that? Is that the name of some delicious food?
Jamil
Al'āb Nārīya means “fireworks” in the ancient language of the Scalding Sands.
Now, it is widely known as the “Yasmina River Fireworks Festival”.
Grim
Ya… sami… na… Never heard of that, though?
Kalim
For real!? It’s a super duper famous fireworks festival, you know?
Lots of international and domestic tourists come just to attend the festival!
The bazaar and stalls sell all sorts of stuff, like pretty souvenirs and super colourful fruits, too!
The main event is the fireworks that are launched at the end of the festival! In any case, it’s just amazing!
I love this festival because of the energetic and excited atmosphere you can feel out in the streets!
Grim
Ohh!! That sounds like a loada fun!
Jamil

Although, on the other hand, some of the people in power exploit that to earn a quick buck…

Kalim
Right! Yuu, why don’t you join us too?
