Malleus has known Lilsy for a long time after all. He probably doesn’t wanna settle on a lacklustre gift~

I’ll have to make it a point to tell Lilia that Malleus picked out his souvenir in earnest when we return to school.

This is quite the difficult task as it is my first time purchasing a souvenir for someone.
I tried to search for a travel pennant since Lilia collects them from the places he visits…but it seems that there are none here.
Trey
Pennant…? I’ve never heard of that.
Malleus
It is a long triangular flag that is embroidered in different tourist attractions. It appears to be the standard souvenir item according to Lilia.
I’ve also received many pennants from him, and decorated my dormitory room with them.
I had thought that it would be the perfect souvenir considering this country has a flourishing textile industry, and yet…

It was a standard souvenir way, way back, but not now. I don’t think they’re in stock anymore.

That is a shame…

That shirt has quite a flashy design.
I’m also curious about its slogan which says “Gone are your restraints, don the freedom tee!”

This is known as the Journey Shirt. It is said to be the shirt donned by the genie when he went on vacation.
To express his sheer exhilaration for his journey, he wore a shirt with both a flashy design and colour.
It was then developed as a souvenir for tourists based on the tale and the room it offered for unusual designs.
Malleus
The favourite shirt of the genie who loved travelling? This seems fitting for the expressive and cheerful Lilia.
I would like to purchase one of these Journey Shirts.

I hear that the vegetables of the Scalding Sands are of good quality.1 I’m certain he would be pleased to know that as well.

It’s sold at lots of stalls back in Camel Bazaar, but I can’t find any here.
That’s my bad. If only I’d bought it while we were there.
…Can’t be helped then. Should I just give up on that and buy something else?

That might be good! He’d probably be delighted if you get seasonings that can be oft-used.

These red capsicum and dried mint seem to be the standard spices used in the Scalding Sands.
Olive oil and nut oil are pretty famous too. Plus, pomegranate molasses dressing3…

Yes. Lilia’s cooking…has a flavour so unique that it cannot be expressed with words.

Malleus
I’ll refrain from commenting further.
However…
If you do insist on giving seasonings to him, Clover…then you will need to brace yourself accordingly after.

Sigh… Looks like I’ll have to settle with tomato juice in the end. I hope I can find it…

- I originally wanted to omit this line (熱砂の国の野菜は品質が良いと聞く) because in much of the earlier part of Episode 3 (after Najma appears iirc) there was a lot of dialogue about how nice the fruits, veggies and crops are super poggers here. It felt strange that Malleus would bring it up here as if he wasnt listening to the Viper word vomit (Return to text)
- He actually says シルバーたち (Silver and the rest) but like it felt awkward to just say “yeah. silver and the rest. who? the rest. thats all”. I think Lilia does cook for the both of them at least. I don’t know if he cooks for the dorm or not. (Return to text)
- Pomegranate molasses is a type of Persian seasoning which I thought would fit the Scalding Sands setting. I thought since these are supposed to be Scalding Sands stuff, keeping to the generic ザクロのドレッシング (pomegranate dressing) wouldn’t hit the mark. (Return to text)
