Traditional Event of the Scalding Sands

Scalding Sands Fireworks Bleachers (Day)

Scalding Sands - Fireworks Bleachers

Malleus
We’ve arrived at an open area. What is this?
Jamil
This is the main venue for the Yasmina River Fireworks Festival.
Would you all like to take a look around since we’re here anyway? Camel Bazaar is actually just up ahead.
Cater
There’s so many people here even though it’s still high noon now.
Jamil
That’s because this is the signature festival of the Scalding Sands.
It is said that the Yasmina River Fireworks Festival was derived from a folktale.
There once lived a beautiful princess who cared for her subjects and a poor yet kindhearted youth…
They overcame their status differences and were united in marriage for the rest of their lives.
Then, the magic lamp’s genie was said to have celebrated their love by releasing countless rings of light into the night sky.
Jamil
That dreamlike scenery was so unforgettable for those who witnessed it, that the tale was passed down generation after generation.
Ever since, the Scalding Sands locals would release lavish fireworks in celebration of the princess and the youth’s marriage.
And then, it evolved into the traditional event of the Scalding Sands as it is known in the present.
Cater
What a wonderful folktale~
Jamil
In addition, there is a white flower attached to each of your costumes, correct?
It is a type of flower known as jasmine.
In the folktale, it is said to be the flower that the youth bestowed upon the princess, and in turn, it became a symbol of this fireworks festival.
Malleus
So that is the reason for its use as an embellishment on festival clothing.
Since it is a live flower rather than an artificial one, it is certainly fresh and gives off quite a fine fragrance.
Cater
With the fireworks festival and the jasmine flower, it sounds like the residents of the Scalding Sands are kinda romantic in a way.
Jamil
I suppose so… Various traditions and customs are held dearly in this country.
An example would be the final fireworks which paint the Yasmina River Fireworks Festival…
It is considered to be an honourable responsibility left only to the most excellent pyrotechnicians of each generation.
Cater
Wow~ And it just keeps getting more and more romantic! How lovely~
Jamil
However…
I believe that the Scalding Sands’ true appeal lies in its ever evolving technical prowess.
Cater
What do you mean by that?
Jamil
The Sorcerer of the Sands, who is the most respected of the Great Seven in this country…
Is said to have been an extremely wise person who created many machines that were far more advanced than what the technology of his time could achieve.
There was even a device that could generate artificial lightning among them.
With its focus on mages and engineers who revered the Sorcerer of the Sands…
The Scalding Sands was able to both actively research and operate cutting-edge technology over time.
Jamil
I believe that is the reason why the quality of life in the Scalding Sands improved by leaps and bounds.
Malleus
I was certainly greeted with surprises at every corner right from my very first step into this country.
The affluence of the Scalding Sands which simultaneously walks the paths of tradition and innovation…
Perhaps you could even say that this lively fireworks festival itself is a symbol of that spirit as well.

Jamil
The festival continues to be held year after year with the help of donations from wealthy nobles like the Asim family.
Thanks to that, tourist businesses are booming and the cityfolk are able to enjoy the fireworks…
The city bustles with activity using the nobility’s cash, which also enables the commoners to prosper. All in all, it’s an exhilarating tale to behold.
Jamil
Pfft. Well, I do get where you’re coming from.
Apparently, when I was a kid, I would get overjoyed whenever I saw the fireworks in the sky.
I’m no longer the hyperactive child I used to be now, but I still await nightfall with bated breath each time.
