Scalding Sands' Al'āb Nārīya Event Story Episode 3-7

As a brief note, “Silky Melon” and “Tower Baguette” are capitalised in these few stories because I kinda viewed them like those fancy wancy fruit brand names (Shine Muscat grapes etc.)

Title: Captivating Bazaar! - Tower Baguette
Characters: Cater, Trey, Jamil, Malleus, Grim, MC/Yuu, Najma

Scalding Sands Camel Bazaar (Day)

Scalding Sands - Camel Bazaar

Najma
That Silky Melon was so good~ Now then~ I wonder what’s my next treat~
Jamil
Good grief… You’re still going to eat…?
Trey
There’s lots of stalls that serve bread here. The fragrance of freshly baked bread really stimulates the appetite.
Najma
That’s because bread is a staple in this country!
Jamil
The small bakeries along the road have their own baking pots for bread as well, so you can also enjoy freshly baked bread there.
Bread that is fresh from the pot has an exceptional flavour to it, you know.
Cater
There are round ones, square ones, long and thin ones, bread that’s soft and fluffy and others that are dry and look solid…
There’s all sorts of shapes, sizes and toppings for bread, I can’t stop looking around~ ♪
Malleus
There is a baguette over there that is as large as a child.
Cater
Wow! It really is huge!
Najma
That is known as Tower Baguette. It’s another specialty of the fireworks festival.
Jamil
It is said in the Scalding Sands that if you eat a large baguette, you would never go hungry ever again.
The youth from the festival’s folktale distributed bread to hungry children…
That legend is the origin for this belief.
From there, many stalls began to market it as a lucky charm on the day of the festival.
Grim
I’ve never seen such a huge loaf of bread in my life! It looks so filling! Time to dig in!
Najma
Ah! It started eating all by itself…
Grim
Omnom… Yummy!

Grim
Ughhh, no matter how much I eat, it doesn’t shrink a single bit… It’s good, but I’m tired of it already…
Najma
Of course~
This isn’t meant for one person to finish. It’s supposed to be divided so that everyone eats it little by little.
Grim
Finish the rest, Yuu.
Trey
Welp, shall we help to finish it then?
Cater
But wouldn’t we also get tired of eating such a huge loaf of bread plain like Gri-Gri?
Jamil
In that case, you could apply some of the jam that’s at the storefront and eat it that way.
Since our local specialty is fruit, processed foods created using them are also exceptional. Our apricot jam in particular is famous.
It is extremely delicious, so do try it out, everyone. Here, please help yourselves to some jam.
Trey
Thanks. With that out of the way… Chomp!
It’s indeed sweet and delectable.
The apricot is in large chunks and the fruitiness lingers strongly in your mouth even after you swallow.
Malleus
Although I can taste the tartness of the fruit, its sweetness overpowers it as a whole still.
Cater
I-It’s that sweet…?
Malleus
Yes, it suits bread very well.
Najma
We use this jam often back home as well. I love sweet foods, so I’d end up eating so many slices of bread with it!
Here, help yourself to some too, Cater!
Cater
Eh?!
That does look good but Cay-Cay’ll probably consider getting another spread instead~ …What’s this?
Jamil
This is grilled eggplant paste.
I recommend trying this as well since our lush vegetables are also local specialties.
Cater
Don’t mind if I do, then… Chomp!
What deliciously light flavour! There’s also yoghurt mixed into this, right?
Grim
Lemme try… Om!
It’s so, so yummy! I can eat all the bread in the world no problem if I’ve got this!
Jamil
And just earlier he’d said that he couldn’t eat anymore… Grim’s really the kind whose words are skin-deep…
Najma
I’ll be eating too, then~!
Jamil
Najma, wipe your hands properly before you eat. Here, take these wet tissues.
Najma
Gosh, stop treating me like a kid!
Trey
Jamil sure is attentive to the needs of others, huh.
Cater
I have a feeling that he’s just a little bit overprotective, though.
Malleus
Freshly baked goods are certainly delicious. Does your house have baking pots for bread like the bakeries, Viper?
Jamil
What we have back home is a regular oven. We used the ones at Kalim’s house when we wished to use such pots.
There’s a unique flavour to freshly made bread using them, and I enjoyed being able to freely adjust its shape and size as a child.
Najma
Yeah, me too. I burnt mine by accident the first time I tried to bake bread, didn’t I.
Jamil
It couldn’t be helped, since baking bread with a pot is difficult.
Trey
I can understand how that feels since I also burnt a pie that I was trying to bake in the oven as a kid.
It must’ve been pretty disappointing right, Miss Najma?
Najma
I was so upset~! I wanted to cry back then.
But Jamil used that burnt bread to make hamburg steak for me after that.
Grim
Huh? Burnt bread into hamburg steak? How’dya do that?
Jamil
I shaved off the terribly burnt parts and used the remainder in place of breadcrumbs which serve as a binder.
Najma
It was so good~
Jamil
It would’ve been a waste to just throw the whole thing out after all.
Plus, whenever Najma gets discouraged from mistakes, I’d be the one who picks up from there and ensures it gets baked.
Najma
Yeah yeah, but thanks to you, I still like to bake bread to this day.
Cater
What a good big bro~
Jamil
…That’s not how it is.

Notes

This is just a general note that while i was translating this i was kinda. going mad. it’s kinda stupid but i was just confused at how they suddenly were in possession of a giant baguette without any prior mention of obtaining it and it just boggles me like. what the hell. did grim just up and eat a random bread?? were they carrying that giant loaf with them around all along??? what does this mean???

Also, Trey refers to Najma as Najma-chan which is pretty cute. I like to think that it’s because he has younger siblings and thats just how he talks to kids instinctively.
