Harveston's Kelkkarotu Episode 1-3

This was honestly one of my favourite parts to translate for the first half of the event haha

Also a general note since this is my first time approaching Idia’s voice: when it comes to his tablet speech, I follow what the EN localisation does for the most part (lowercase and no full-stops) There was one line where I added a full-stop solely because it would have been really confusing to just not break the sentence (he was going on a tangent at that point)

God-Tier Development Ahoy!!!

Cafeteria (Day)

Cafeteria

Epel
One more to go… It's almost the end of lunch, so I need to hurry and find someone.
Idia
…U-uh…S-s-s-so…
Epel
Whoa?! I-Idia?!
Grim
You were sitting around here, too?
Epel
Is there something you need?
Idia

U-Uuuhhh…E-e-e-earlier, your…u-uh…

Epel
Excuse me?
Idia
S-s-s-so…I-I mean…
Guh… I was right, this was always going to be hopeless! Slipping into the normies' convo? That's way harder than the hardest games ever!

*Zwip!*

Idia
something you said in that convo just now caught my interest
Grim
There he goes. Talking through his tablet.
Idia
you mentioned a sled race, ye? and harveston? tomorrow? what time are u all meetin?
Epel
Huh?! Wha?! Uh…
Grim
He started firing a whole bunch of questions at Epel the moment he switched to his tablet!
Epel
C-Could you ask your questions one at a time, please?
Idia
were you born in harveston, sir epel?
Epel
Yes, I was…
Idia
aw hell yeah!! that was where love sled was set, right???
Sebek
And what is that supposed to be?
Epel
It's an animated TV series set in Harveston. It's more than 10 years old by now.
I remember watching it as a kid, but I only remember bits and pieces of the story.
Idia
nothing to be ashamed of, sir epel. even yours truly right here only learned about it recently
they were doing this special online showing of a collection of old nostalgic classics that i caught the other day. was my first time seeing it
Sebek
What sort of animation is it?
Epel
The story's about a bunch of cute girls who started a Sled Club and aimed to win the nationals.
Sebek
What a mysterious setting for an animation.
Jade
Really? Apart from the sled element, it sounds like a staple plotline in fiction, no?
Idia

SIR JADE!

Jade
I-Is something the matter?
Grim
Why'd he start speaking by himself out of nowhere?!
Idia
It's beyond ridiculous to lump Love Sled together with other plebeian anime!
It's a touching, passionate anime all about the girls' devotion to plush sledding! You are 100% guaranteed to bawl your eyes out!
Grim, Sebek and Jade
…Plush sledding?
Grim
What even is that? I get the sled bit…but plush?
Idia
SIGH~… This is exactly why noobs are so…
Obviously it's short for plush toy sled race, DUH!
Epel
Ah, that reminds me, I didn't mention it, did I?
Mount Moln Kelkkarotu is a sled race that utilises plushies.
Sebek
You mean the plush toys ride with us while we race?
Epel
Nope. We inject magic into the plushies to pull the sleds, actually.
Sebek
The plush toys are the ones pulling the sleds?!
Th-This is very different from the grilling race I imagined it to be.
Epel
It's a competition that's been held year after year in Harveston for the festival.
Grim
So this is wha'tcha meant by we need to be able to use magic to move the sleds.
Jade
I would understand if the sleds were pulled by dogs or horses, but plushies? Even I am surprised.
Epel
It's strange, maybe? But this is linked to a folktale that's been passed down for generations in Harveston.
Sebek
A folktale?
Epel
Yeah.
Once upon a time, a beautiful young girl's life was put in danger by an evil villain while she was in the forest.
The animals of the forest were worried about her, and ran desperately through the mountain trails to call for help.
Their earnest dash bore fruit as they finally managed to find someone who could help them, and frantically pulled them along, rushing back to the girl's aid.
At least, that's how the story's told.
Epel
So we started sled racing in honor of the animals' brave actions and devotion.
Jade
I see. That is a wonderful tale indeed.
Epel
Naturally, it wouldn't be right to force real animals to run all night for the race, so we use plushies instead.
The race also serves as a way to revitalise the village nowadays, too, so importance is placed on the appearance of the race, too, I guess.
Idia
The four heroines who earnestly challenge the traditional Plush Sledding contest with all their might…
While there are times where they laugh together and other times where they fight, they band together for the singular goal of clinching victory…
That's what the touching anime, Dashing through the Snow - Girl Gang! Love Sled1, is all about!
Not only does it have colorful and in-depth characterization, the backgrounds are breathtakingly realistic!
Unprecedented, heartwrenching plot twists hit you one after another, keeping it engaging in a way you'd struggle to find in today's anime!
Idia
I'm so completely addicted that I went straight to buy its DVD and everything published about it during its release~~ Fuheehee!
Grim
I don't think I've ever seen him talk non-stop like this before.
Epel
And to think that he was communicating through his tablet up till then…
Jade
It seems Idia becomes quite the chatterbox when talking about his favourite things.
Idia
I've always wanted to visit the place it was set in one day.
Sebek
Going to the place that appeared in an animation? What meaning is there to such an act?
Jade
It seems that among the fans of animations, movies and dramas, there are those who visit the places featured in such works.
Sebek
I see. There really are all manner of hobbies in the world. I can't say it's something I personally understand, however.

*Zwip!*

Idia
i seeee, so sir grim and sir yuu are going to harveston for a vacation, huh?
probs means youll get the chance to see mount moln and stuff right? quite the enviable position
oh and sir sebek and sir jade are going as far as to join the sled race too! how fortunate you all are!
well, not that any of this has anything to do w/ me anyway
ive got zero plans to go to harveston and tbh it's not like anyone invited me anyway so
Idia
now then, wonder what i could do to kill time this weekend~ dont have any plans in particular either~ im so free wowie
Epel
……
U-Um… Are you trying to say that you want to come to Harveston…maybe?
Idia
huh? didn't say anything of that sort tho?
although hypothetically if i were to be invited itd be rude to say no. if and i mean if i were to actually be invited i wouldnt be reluctant about it tho
Epel
Idia… Would you like to come to Harveston and participate in the sled race, as well?
Idia

GOD-TIER DEVELOPMENT AHOY!!!!2

Epel
Wha-?!
Idia
N-No I mean… I-If Sir Epel requests so, then I can't help it can I~ Can't say no, no can do.
I-I can't even afford the time, but I guess just this once! I'll join you oh so kindly!
Epel
But you literally just said you were free…
Ah, right. Will Ortho be coming along with us, Idia?
Idia
O-Of course he will. Ortho and I stick together forever and always after all!
Epel
Okay then. I'll arrange for the lodgings to accommodate Ortho, too.
So we've got Sebek, Jade, Idia…plus myself. All four members needed for the sled race are here!
Since Grim, Yuu, and Ortho are coming with us too, I'm sure things will be lively.
This means I'm able to fulfill Grandma's request. Thanks, guys!

Notes

  1. The title in Japanese is 雪中爆走少女団 らぶソリ in full. Literally, it’s “Girl group that races furiously through the snow - Love sled”. Went about as wild as I could on this, it was a fun thing to translate even if the name only appears like once in the story. (Return to text)

  1. The exact line here is 神展開キターーーー!! The term 神展開 (kami tenkai) is a Nico Nico Douga slang that refers to “when the story’s development seems like it’s evolved into god status”. I wish I was kidding (reference link in Japanese) (Return to text)
